Our Organic Farmers
It takes a lot of smarts and hard work to grow the organic durum wheat that makes up Annie's organic pasta. Our organic farmers do what they do because they have incredible respect for the land. Thanks to their care and consideration, their farm's soil stays healthy and you get to eat mineral-rich pasta that's been grown and processed without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides.

We drove nearly 7 hours from Minneapolis straight west and then north to get to Jim and Cyndy Robinson’s farm in Garrison, North Dakota. Just when we’d had enough of the drive, the flat landscape rolled itself into gentle swells and the Missouri River began to snake along our side. This is Lewis and Clark country, with Lake Sakakawea and several state parks. It is a beautiful place to farm.

Wade Tryan lives near Flaxville, MT about twenty miles south of Canada in rolling farm and ranch country too pretty for words. We made a wrong turn on the way to his place and the ladies visiting at the post office in Whitetail gave us directions right to Wade’s house. It’s the kind of town where everyone knows each other and people aren’t afraid of strangers.

Drive north almost to the Canadian border, and at the end of a windy dirt road you’ll find Roanwood Farm. The land is hill country with steep breaks and an endless horizon. Larry and Colleen Pankratz have farmed since 1976, and both come from farming families in Lustre and Glasgow, Montana. Their kids have stayed near the farm, and luckily their son Cody is following in Larry’s footsteps.

Jeff DeWald lives near Napolean, North Dakota. His place is right off the dirt road and it’s not too hard to find. He has been a farmer all his life, a lifestyle his Dad chose and one he chooses. Jeff farms about 4000 acres of rolling hills and plateaus, a combination of his Mother’s, Uncle’s Father’s Grandfather’s and Great Grandfather’s land.

Lane Drury farms the Montana land that his Grandparents came to in 1940. His brothers and sisters have all left the farm. He jokes that he is the “fool who stayed,” but really he is the smart one who came back. He and his wife, Colleen, met in Bozeman, MT at the University and Lane turned down law school to return to the farm.

The Stentoft's farm is about 5,500 acres and just south of Scobey, Montana - on the “Highline” where some of the best durum in the world grows. The rolling hills are divided by shrubby draws and grassland. Deer, antelope, hawks, raccoons and a whole assortment of rabbits make the land their home.

Dave and Dee Turner's family has farmed this land in Northeastern Montana for nearly one hundred years. Dave and his Dad always had a penchant for trying new things, so organic farming was a natural opportunity to try something new.
