Our Roots

Annie with daugter Mollie on her organic farm

Annie’s Homegrown was co-founded in 1989 by Annie Withey, an organic farmer, wife, and mother of two.  Annie started with the intention of making all-natural macaroni and cheese.  In the end, she did a whole lot more than that.

Annie’s grassroots marketing style sparked a word-of-mouth phenomenon and created a fan base as loyal as bunnies are to carrots.  Even as her phone rang off the hook (yes, she once upon a time put her home phone number on the boxes) and more fan letters piled up for her hand-written response (she still continues to do this), Annie persisted, for she knew this one-of-a-kind communication with her fans and friends was the key to success.

She was right.

In 1998, we were proud to be the first to introduce three flavors of Organic Macaroni & Cheese, and all of us were pleased to see your remarkable interest and immediate support for organic products.

In 2003, we brought you four oh-too-tasty flavors of crackers we refer to as Cheddar Bunnies.  Those bunnies were joined by more bunnies in 2005, but in graham-form…also known as Bunny Grahams

In January of 2007, we were able to convert all (except for our Gluten-Free Rice Pasta & Cheddar) of the pasta in our Natural Macaroni & Cheese line to certified organic  wheat pasta.  And, in August of that year, we proudly introduced Annie’s Homegrown Breakfast Cereals.

In 2008, we introduced the first-ever organic, vegan Bunny Fruit Snacks, which have been a huge hit!

We’re thankful to be in all 50 states and some parts of Canada, in your pantries and lunchboxes, in many of your tummies, on some of your cars and bikes, and, most importantly, in your conversations with each other.  Thank you for spreading the word and please continue to send us your feedback!
