NAPA, CA (October 2, 2006) – Annie’s Homegrown, makers of delicious, all-natural and organic alternatives to traditional comfort foods, today announced that it has partnered with NativeEnergy to offset 100% of the estimated carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from it’s corporate headquarters, manufacturing facilities, mobile sampling tour and distribution warehouse.
This investment in renewable energy credits will help finance the construction of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe St. Francis Wind Farm in South Dakota. This project represents a considerable opportunity for the tribe to develop a sustainable homeland economy in harmony with core cultural values. Annie’s Homegrown is helping to build this important project by purchasing a share of the renewable energy credits the wind farm is estimated to generate over its operating life.
“When Annie’s Homegrown was founded in 1989, it was with a strong commitment to protecting the planet and being responsible corporate citizen,” said John Foraker, CEO, Annie’s Homegrown. “Partnering with NativeEnergy is one way we build on that commitment. By offsetting our carbon outputs, in a way that brings new clean energy projects into being, we’re taking responsibility for helping to combat global warming.”
“Annie’s is helping to build a truly new renewable energy project that without Annie’s and our other customers’ help may never be built,” says Tom Boucher, President & CEO, NativeEnergy. “Consumers everywhere can follow Annie’s lead, offset their global warming pollution, and help to move us toward a more sustainable energy future.”
Annie’s Homegrown invites consumers everywhere to take the same proactive approach and visit www.NativeEnergy.com to offset their travel, auto, home or business emissions by helping to build new renewable energy projects that reduce the amount of fossil fuels used to generate electricity.
Annie’s dedication to the planet also extends to other community giving initiatives. Through a program called Cases for Causes, Annie’s Homegrown donates cases of delicious mac & cheese and snack products to non-profit organizations that benefit education and the environment. Annie’s also supports tomorrow’s environmental leaders. Established in 2000, the annual Environmental Studies Scholarship award recognizes students studying environmental science at U.S. colleges and universities. To date, more than 100 students have received Annie’s Homegrown scholarships.
